Hedningarna History


1987
Hållbus Totte Mattsson, Björn Tollin and Anders Norrudde (former Stake) forms the band Hedningarna.

1988
Hedningarna writes and performes the music to a six hour piece called "The great wrath" by Peter Oscarsson.

1989
Hedningarna first album is released at Alice Records.

1991
Hedningarna and Silence Records starts their cooperation.
The finnish singers Sanna Kurki-Suonio and Tellu Paulasto becomes members of the band.

1992
The album "kaksi!" is released in September.
In February 1993 Hedningarna recives a Grammy and standing ovations at the ceremony.
"kaksi!" sells unbelivable 35 000 copies in Sweden.

1994
The success is followed by the album"TRÄ". Hedningarna performs at the Roskilde Festival infront of 20 000 people.

1995
Tours in Scandinavia, festivalgigs all around Europe.

1996
Sanna and Tellu stays home in Finland to have children. Tellu revieils that she's leaving the group.
She is replaced by Anita Lehtola. The boys starts to work on the album "Hippjokk".

1997
"Hippjokk" is released in Februari. Tours and festivalgigs with the girls in Spain and Belgium. The bassplayer Ulf "Rockis" Ivarsson becomes a member of Hedningarna. Anders Stake changes his name to Anders Norudde.

1998
During the coldest winter Hedningarna travels to the Russian Karelen to gather inspiration to their new album. It is recorded during the spring and summer the same year. A short tour around Spain that summer. Ulf Ivarsson leaves the group after the recordings are finished.
Totte and Björn together with the violinplayer Ola Bäckström record a CD with music for the dancetroup Virvla. It is released at Silence records in 1999. Sanna releases a soloalbum in Finland.

1999
The new album "Karelia - Visa" is released, and is followed by conserts in Scandinavia and a three week tour in the USA.
Hedningarna playes live to a dance performance based on their music, made and performed by Flying Foot Forum in Mineapolis, USA.
The violinplayer Magnus Stinnerbom joines the group.

2000
Sanna leaves the group and is replaced by Liisa Matveinen.
In the fall Bjørn and Anita leaves. Bjørn is replaced by Christian Svensson.

2001
Tellu Turkka (former Paulasto) rejoines the band and replaces Anita.
The band tours around northern Europe.

2003
The compilation CD 1989-2003 is released, and is followed by a tour in Scandinavia.

After the tour Tellu and Liisa leaves the band. The band starts working on new material for an instrumental album.

2004-2009
Different tours and festivalgigs in Scandinavia, Us and all around Europe.

2007
Magnus leaves the group and is replaced by Samuel Andersson.
