Hedningarna History

1987
Hållbus Totte Mattsson, Björn Tollin and Anders Norrudde (former Stake) form the band Hedningarna.

1988
Hedningarna writes and performs the music to the six hour long theatre play "The great wrath" by Peter Oscarsson.

1989
Hedningarnas first album is released at Alice Records.

1991
Hedningarna and Silence Records starts their cooperation.
The Finnish singers Sanna Kurki-Suonio and Tellu Paulasto join the band.

1992
The album "kaksi!" is released in September.

1993
Hedningarna recives a Grammy to standing ovations at the ceremony.
"kaksi!" sells unbelivable 35 000 copies in Sweden.

1994
This success is followed by the album "TRÄ".
Hedningarna performs at the Roskilde Festival in front of 20 000 people.

1995
Tours in Scandinavia and festival gigs all around Europe.

1996
Sanna and Tellu stays home in Finland to have children. Tellu reveals that she's leaving the group and is replaced by Anita Lehtola.
The boys starts to work on the album "Hippjokk".

1997
"Hippjokk" is released in Februari.
Tours and festival gigs with the girls in Spain and Belgium.
The bassplayer Ulf "Rockis" Ivarsson becomes a member of Hedningarna.
Anders Stake changes his name to Anders Norudde.

1998
During the coldest winter Hedningarna travels to the Russian part of Karelen to gather inspiration for a new album.
It is recorded during the spring and summer the same year.
After a short tour in Spain Ulf Ivarsson leaves the group.
Totte and Björn form the group Boot together with the violin player Ola Bäckström and record a CD with music for the dance troupe Virvla.
Sanna releases a solo album in Finland.

1999
The new album "Karelia - Visa" is released, and is followed by concerts in Scandinavia and a longer tour in the USA.
Hedningarna plays live to a dance performance based on their music, made and performed by Flying Foot Forum in Mineapolis, USA.
The violin player Magnus Stinnerbom joins the group.

2000
Sanna leaves the group and is replaced by Liisa Matveinen.
In the fall Bjørn and Anita also leave.
Bjørn is replaced by Christian Svensson.

2001
Tellu Turkka (former Paulasto) rejoins the band to replace Anita.
The band tours around northern Europe.

2003
The compilation CD 1989-2003 is released, and is followed by a tour in Scandinavia.

2004-2009
Various tours and festival gigs in Scandinavia, US and all around Europe.

2007
Magnus leaves the group and is replaced by Samuel Andersson.

2009
The band is touring in Spain and Portugal and does the first summer tour in Sweden for five years.

2010
Christian leaves the group.
Anders, Totte and Samuel starts to work on new songs based on material from their gurus "Philemon Arthur & the Dung".

2011
The recording of the new album starts.
In the summer Hedningarna go to the east of Europe to play at festivals in Poland, Belarus and Estonia. Valter Kinbom guests as percussionist.

2012
& to be released.
